MESSAGE FROM HOD

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) plays a vital role in shaping competent and compassionate physicians and surgeons by integrating the art and science of diagnosis and management of diseases related to the Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck region. With its deep-rooted clinical relevance, ENT serves as a bridge between foundational sciences and practical medicine, enhancing students’ understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and surgical skills. The ENT Department at KMU-Institute of Medical Sciences has been actively involved in teaching and training under the MBBS program in alignment with the standards set by PMDC and HEC and training of postgraduate FCPS trainees as per CPSP standards. With a strong emphasis on clinical exposure, procedural skills, and patient-centered care, the department ensures students are well-prepared to meet the healthcare needs of the community. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of ENT comprises lecture room, procedure room, store and 24 bed ward as in-patient facility for under and postgraduate students and well equipped OPD rooms with a good collection of necessary instruments and machines. It also has well-ventilated patients’ chambers, (operation theater as a part of main OT), to meet the demands of students undergoing postgraduate training. The Department motivates students to take an active role in small group discussions and research activities. Postgraduate training programs and research are undertaken in tandem with other departments, under close supervision. Additionally, it aims to support postgraduate research programs and to give the CPSP postgraduate researchers a platform to publish their research work in reputable national and international journals.

ABOUT THE COURSES

Basic anatomy and physiology of ear, nose and throat. Pathologies of ENT and their management both medical and surgical. Foundation of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck, Sore Throat, Difficulty in Swallowing, Hoarseness and Stridor, Deafness, Ear Discharge & Dizziness, Nasal Obstruction, Swelling Neck, thyroid and parathyroid glands. In accordance with the PMDC curriculum, the subject is integrated with all other basic and clinical subjects, in order to present a holistic view of the structure, normal and abnormal functions of Ear, nose, and head and Neck. Special emphasis is laid on history taking, examination and diseases and their management in each discussion.
